Picture of Pastor

There is no doubt in my mind that I knew that Jesus loved me – even as a young child only five years old.  I was invited by a kindergarten classmate to attend church with her and her parents at First Baptist Church in my home town of Galveston, Texas. The pastor reminded me that no one could make a personal confession of faith until they were twelve years of age. I remember praying for that day to come as quickly as possible, and the first Sunday after celebrating my 12th birthday, I was baptized!

God moved on my heart any number of times during my early years. When I was 10 years old, I told my parents that someday, I would be a missionary to China.  My mother replied, “Yes, Dear.”  Some thirty-five years later, in 1985, I left America to spend a year serving as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language at Jilin Institute of Technology in Changchun, the People’s Republic of China.

Another move of the Lord on my life happened in 1952 when I knew, that I knew, that I knew, I wanted to teach children who had special learning needs, having suffered so from my own learning disabilities while in school.

I have said all of this to say that from my own experience, I know that God works in the hearts of children and youth in very special ways…this was the most important aspect of rearing my own children.  More than anything else, I wanted them to know the Lord and how much He loved them so that they would one day give their lives to Him.

Over the years, in between the mountain top experiences have been many dark, sometimes treacherous, obstacle-laden valleys(with a few fierce storms occasionally)!    While I officially answered the “call to preach” and completed my ordination in the United Methodist Church, I believe I have been in some form of ministry all of my life.  And people, the best is yet to come!   While our bodies invariably age over time, our hearts and spirits can remain forever young in the Lord!
